The History

Jun.11,1971 Basic Structural Plan for the Overall Expansion and Improvement of Formal Education, proposing the establishment of graduate schools specifically for in-service teacher education, published by the Central Council for Education.
Jul.3,1972 Scheme for the Improvement of Teacher Training, dealing mainly with the establishment of graduate schools for in-service teacher education organized on new non-conventional lines, published by the Educational Personnel Training Council.
May.20,1974 A Concept for New Undergraduate and Graduate Universities of Teacher Education published by the Committee for New-Concept Universities of Teacher Education, Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.
Nov.1,1975 Preparatory Office for the Foundation of New-Concept Graduate Universities of Teacher Education set up in the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture. Professor Taniguchi Sumio appointed Office Director.
Jun.17,1978 Partial revision of the National School Establishment Law concerning the foundation of universities approved by the National Diet.
Oct.1,1978 Hyogo University of Teacher Education founded.
Professor Taniguchi Sumio installed as the first President.
Faculty of School Education established to provide an Kindergarten and Elementary School Teacher-Training Program. (annual enrollment: 200 took in Students from 1982)
University Library established.
Apr.1,1980 Graduate School of Education (Master's Program) established with 3 major fields - School Education; Early Childhood Education; School Subject Education - and an annual enrollment of 150.
Center for School Education Research(Abolished as of March 31,2014), and attached Elementary School and Kindergarten established.
Apr.10,1980 First entrance ceremony for attached Elementary School and Kindergarten held.
Apr.23,1980 First entrance ceremony for Graduate School of Education (Master's Program) for the 1980-81 academic years.
Apr.1,1981 Attached Junior High School established. (Took in Students from 1982)
Mathematics and Natural Sciences added to the major field of School Subject Education in the Graduate School of Education (Master's Program). Annual enrollment in the Master's Program rose to 200.
Apr.1,1982 Center for Research and Instructional Skill Development(Abolished as of March 31,2014), and Health and Medical Center established.
Education for the Disabled Children, Fine Arts and Music and Practical Life Studies courses added to the major Field of School Subject Education in the Graduate School of Education (Master's Program). Annual enrollment in the Master's Program rose to 300.
Oct.1,1983 5th anniversary of the University's foundation and completion of buildings and facilities for the Faculty of School Education.
Dec.1,1986 Professor Kamidera Hisao installed as President.
Nov.19,1988 10th anniversary of the University's foundation.

Oct.23,1998 20th anniversary of the University's foundation.
Apr.1,1999 Clinical Research Center for Developmental Psychology established. (reorganization of the former Education and Pratical Center for the Disabled Children)
Apr.1,2000 The program of Early Childhood Education in the Graduate School of Education (Master's Program) has been changed to Infant and Early Childhood Education in School Education Study. Newly offered are an Educational Clinical Psychology course in the School Education Study program, and an Integrated Studies course in the Subjects and Related Areas of Education. The Master's Program now comprises three programs covering 12 specialized courses.
Faculty of School Education (Kindergarten and Elementary School Teacher-Training Program) reorganized into 2 Program consisting of 9 specialized courses. Annual undergraduate enrollment changed to 160.
Graduate School Kobe Satellite established.
Dec.1,2000 Professor Nakasu Masataka installed as President.
May.8,2002 Center for Regional Exchange established.(Abolished as of March 31,2014)
Apr.1,2004 Under the National University Corporation Law, Hyogo University of Teacher Education founded.
Newly opened School Psychology course in School Education Study in the Graduate School of Education.
Joint Graduate School Osaka Satellite established.
Attached kindergarten and schools changed names("Faculty of School Education" no longer part of their names).
Dec.1,2004 Professor Kajita Eiichi installed as President.

Apr.1,2007 Reorganized the Graduate School of Education to provide School Leadership, Management, and Advanced Professional Development in school Education (3 courses).

Apr.1,2008 Reorganized the Graduate School of Education to provide Advanced Professional Development in School Education (4 courses), in the Professional Degree Program (Graduate School of Education).
Oct.11,2008 30th anniversary of the University's foundation.
Apr.1,2009 Field of Instructional Development in Forefront Issues was established in the Joint Graduate School (Ph.D. Program)in Science of School Education.
Oct.1,2009 The Educational Materials Museum established.
Mar.19,2009 Research and Student Service Building completed.
Apr.1,2010 Professor Kajisa Tetsuya installed as President.

Apr.1,2011 Reorganized the Graduate School of Education (Master's Program) to establish Human Development Education, Special Needs Education, and Contents and Methods Development for Teaching Subjects.

Jan. 14, 2015 Organization for Innovative Research in Education established.
Apr. 1, 2015 The Innovative lab(Kobe lab) was established in Kobe Harborland Campus.
Apr. 1, 2016 Professor Fukuda Mitsuhiro installed as President.
Graduate School of Education (Master's Program): Contents and Methods Development for Teaching Subjects was reorganized, and Subject Pedagogy and Practical Education in Language Studies was established.
Graduate School of Education (Professional Degree Program): Development of Educational Policy Leader and Development of School Globalization Leader were established within Advanced Professional Development in School Education.
Annual enrollment in the Joint Graduate School changed to 32.
